How to Simply and Easily Improve Your Sales Copy

By Fred Stockner

You aren't going to be able to drastically raise your sales copy's conversion rate in just one night--it takes some time to really do the work. If you want to ensure that your sales copy is giving you a good return, then you will have to make the right tweaks at the right places. Keep reading to learn how you can better improve your sales copy.

Know Your Numbers: Before you can improve things and make more money you need to thoroughly understand the point from which you are beginning. This means that you need to have an intimate understanding of things like how many visitors your site gets every month, how many of products each of those visitors is going to buy from you and what your average conversion rate will be. Measuring your results is one of the first things that you will learn about when you start trying to figure out how to get more out of your sales copy. When you measure the results you are getting you should know that "unique visitors per month" is not the same thing as the number of hits your site gets. Also, knowing your conversion rate is necessary because when you make consistent changes/tweaks to your copy, you'll know where you're headed, and how much you're able to improve. It is important to know where you are starting from because that is how you know if any progress has been made.

Real and Basic Language: A great way to improve your conversion rate and help your sales copy perform better is to infuse it with a conversational tone. Real people read your sales copy--never forget that--and they want to read something that sounds real as well. Corporate and professional tones are only going to be detrimental. Don't fret over what a competitor is or is not doing; just be as real as you can with your approach. Try to find a voice of our own and you will have far more people responding to your offers. If you use too much jargon in your copy, your conversion rate will drop not get higher. All of the points you bring up in your sales copy are going to be responded to seriously by your prospect and that is why you need to use as much simple language as you can.

Use Bullets: If your sales copy seems like a giant mound of content all the way from the top to the bottom you won't make a lot of sales. Bullet points can really help you break up your copy; this is especially true when it comes to showing all of the good stuff and benefits offered by the product you are selling. Creating lists of product benefits can only help you. Anybody who doesn't want to read all the way through your copy (scanners, for example) won't have to worry about problems when you do this. If you have clean and neat copy that has a clear layout you'll get lots more sales.

Finally, when you put in regular and consistent effort to make your sales copy better your sales volume will grow over time too.
